March 2019
What’s New?
March is here! Now, we are all just waiting anxiously for warm spring weather! Thank you to all the families who donated goodies for our friendship party! The students had a fun time at the friendship party as well as the 100th day of school. Thank you also for the wonderful 100 day projects that were sent in-they were creative and fun! Read Across America Day is March 1, 2019. In A101, Ms. Rita Schiano will read the students the book A House is a House for Me. Rita Schiano is a life coach and an author from Sturbridge. Many different community members will come to read stories to classes in our school on 3/1 in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday which is actually 3/2. All children will receive a bookmark to encourage reading. We will be doing fun activities throughout the day and following week to honor and celebrate Dr. Seuss. As of February 1st, students began to bring library books home after library special. Library special is every Day 3. If students do not return their library book, they are unable to take a new one home.
Curriculum
This month, we will be learning about the letters short U, G, W, and V, X, Q, Y and Z. We will learn the sight words said, want, here, me, this and what. We will review all letters and sight words learned so far. We will be learning about addition and subtraction. We will be talking about weather, animals and how to be a good citizen and friend. Please be sure to continue to practice reading with your child!! When your child brings reading worksheets home, please be sure to have your child read the sentences and words on those pages. We have continued to learn how to segment and blend words and continuously review sight words. Kindergarten will be doing our STEM Days March 20-22nd. Thank you to all of those who have donated items for our projects.
What's Needed?
Please continue to send in needed items for our STEM days and any new arts and craft supplies for our PTO raffle baskets. As always, your help and generosity is much appreciated.
Other Information:ther Information…
If you have not sent in a towel for your child to keep here for yoga on Tuesdays, please do so and make sure the towel is labeled with your child’s name. If your child is bringing a home lunch, please send in a drink for lunch (unless your child is ordering lunch milk) and a second drink for snack. Please pack your child’s snack separately from his/her lunch as it helps children not get confused when they bring a lunch from home. If sending in lunch money, please put it an envelope or sandwich bag labeled with your child’s name, lunch number and A101. Please continue to practice your child’s lunch number often as they need to punch it in when they have hot lunch. Children are allowed to bring water bottles for gym days (Day 1 and Day 5) and to keep in the classroom. Once the heat is on in the classroom, the room may get very warm. Therefore, please feel free to allow your child to keep a water bottle at school. Please make sure though that water bottles are labeled with child’s name. We have had a great start to the year! Thank you all or your ongoing support!
